MAT Roofing was founded in 1976 on the belief that a great customer experience should not be sacrificed to deliver quality workmanship. I am proud of this commitment, which continues to be the core focus of MAT Roofing through the next generation of family ownership.

MAT Roofing has been an integral member of North Pittsburgh for nearly 50 years, delivering excellence with a family-oriented approach. We’ve put a roof on either your home or one of your neighbors over the years and I’m sure our trucks have been side-by-side with you on McKnight Road waiting for a light.

We also know a stronger North Pittsburgh is good for all of us. In that vein, MAT Roofing is proud to give back to the most vulnerable in our community through MAT’s partnership with Br. Andre’s Café , which provides employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

As the CEO of an organization celebrating its 48th year, I am grateful for your unwavering support and pledge to deliver an even stronger, more committed and educated team as well as a frictionless 21st century customer experience.

Give us call. Odds are, we are on a roof just around the corner.

MAT’s History

In 1976, Mike Thompson started MAT Roofing with a pickup truck, a work ethic that wouldn't quit, and a simple promise: do the job right, every single time. It felt like he knew everyone — and once you met him, he was your roofer for life. His trucks were spotless navy blue, always clean no matter how hard the crew had worked that day. His roofs were just as sharp. Generation after generation of Pittsburgh families came back to MAT because Mike never gave them a reason to look anywhere else.

Our current team continues to try to build on that legacy and get the experience Mike would have insisted on. In 2023, the new team who knew Mike's family took over the business with one goal in mind: honor what Mike built.

In this spirit, MAT Roofing won Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Best of the Best award in both 2024 and 2025. In 2026, the company earned GAF Certified Plus™ and James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor status — two of the most respected credentials in the industry. And in 2025, the team moved into a newly renovated headquarters in Gibsonia — a milestone that reflects just how far the company has come.

The navy blue trucks are now a lighter shade of blue — some things need to change for change sake. But the standards Mike set? Those haven't changed one bit. Every roof still comes with our 10-year workmanship guarantee, and every customer still gets the same honest, personal service that made MAT a Pittsburgh institution nearly 50 years ago.

Everyone at MAT Roofing lives and works right here in Pittsburgh. This community is home — and we wouldn't be anything without it.

You've probably spotted our blue trucks on McKnight Road or Route 8 up north or sitting in traffic on Library Road in the South Hills. From Zelie to Southpointe, chances are you or someone on your street has trusted MAT with their home. We're proud members of multiple regional Chambers of Commerce and are happy to give back through local schools, youth sports teams, charities, and community groups across Pittsburgh.

We also support a cause close to our hearts. Br. André's Café is a Pittsburgh coffee shop inspired by Saint André Bessette that provides real jobs and meaningful work to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their coffee is sourced from developing countries, and their cookies are legendary. Through our "Roof for a Reason" program, MAT donates $20 to Br. André's Café for every roof we complete.

And if you find a bag of their famous cookies in your mailbox after your install — well, now you know why.
